La tragédie d'un homme ridicule
Primo Spaggiari, directeur d'une fromagerie industrielle, est en train de fêter son anniversaire quand il apprend l'enlèvement de son fils, Giovanni. Les ravisseurs réclament une importante rançon. Malheureusement, l'entreprise est en difficulté et il est compliqué pour Primo de réunir une telle somme. Quand il y parvient enfin, Adelfo, le prêtre qui a servi d'intermédiaire entre la famille et les ravisseurs, lui apprend que Giovanni est déjà mort.
