Diagnostiqué en 2011 d’un cancer de la prostate, le réalisateur et scénariste allemand Wolf Gremm se voit signifier par ses médecins qu'il ne lui reste plus que quelques mois à vivre. Arraché à une vie active et épanouie par cette nouvelle dévastatrice, il décide de combattre sa maladie de son mieux, et entreprend alors de filmer sa vie au jour le jour. Malgré la peur et la souffrance qui le traversent, ce journal intime empreint d'optimisme et d'espoir en vient peu à peu à constituer pour Gremm une sorte de thérapie, l'aidant à accepter le cancer comme une partie intégrante de lui-même. Confronté à la question de ce qui reste et de ce qu'on laisse derrière soi, il se plonge aussi avec émotion dans ses souvenirs, évoquant, entre autres, l’amitié profonde qui l’a uni à Rainer Werner Fassbinder.
